One thing you know you'll get from Franti and Spearhead is a certain kind of crystal clarity--on the production, musicianship, and, of course, in the righteous political message. Released two years after Franti traveled by himself to war-ravaged Baghdad, Gaza Strip, and the West Bank, each of these songs deals with the human cost of war poignantly and pointedly. The lyrics may seem simplistic when removed from the songs--"Those who start wars never fight them/And those who fight wars never like them" and "The F15 is a homicide bomber"--but very few artists have the honesty and balls that Franti does. Bless him for that. Spearhead might lose credibility with some by tying Peter Tosh's chant to "legalize it" to their call for revolution, but those folks are not in the target demographic, anyway. Those who are will thoroughly dig this. From the jam band accents of "Time to Go Home" to the reggae of "Light Up Ya Lighter" to the U2-ish ballad "I Know I'm Not Alone," it's easily Franti's best album yet. --Mike McGonigal

hi everyone, im not too sure were i stand on the political spectrum. ill list some of my beliefs -VERY NATIONALIST -VERY ANTI-IMMIGRATION -I support the WORKING CLASS -i believe that the upper middle and upper classes should be taxed VERY HIGH and the working class should be taxed VERY LOW -Equality for all irishmen and irishwoman -foreigners do not have the same rights as the native irish people when they enter Ireland -a lot of government spending should given to the working class -im not a great fan of privatizationn, i think far more organisations should be run by the government - im a bit religous but im againest religon forced on others ie preachers. - i think there should be a death penelty for the most extreme of crimes -i would be againest abortion but should be allowed in some circumstances ie rape. - not a great fan of capitalism -i thijnk there should be HIGH taxes -im ANTI-imperialist so were do you think i fall in the political spectrum??? thanks much appriciated =] sry i meant HIGH taxes for the rich and LOW taxes for the poor i believe there should be mass deportations of foreigners (more...)

A certain Andy e just asked a question on how to be sure the devil didn't trick you.. A cracking question, but one which people answered quoting scripture like 'thou shalt not kill' etc, claiming that it is ridiculous to assume the devil would tell us that. Is scripture not that the devil will come in the form of the anti christ. The anti christ will lead satans armies, but to control the people and bring them to him, thus completing the first part of his prophecy, there will be the black pope? The black pope will be the one who leads the religious/political side of Lucifers conquest. There fore, in retort to his question, could the whole 'no stealing' etc side of it, not be created by the black pope just to lull people into a false sense of security? My aim here although maybe covered, is to get people to be more open to their own scripture. People quote things out of the bible without knowing what they truely mean, or without looking further than the quote they want. When someone asks a question that require more than simple scripture, people still just quote what they know, no matter how irrelevant it may be. This was to let people know that there is more to their scripture than the church lets on about. Such as the black pope, Lilith etc etc. Nothing more, nothing less. Indeed it would have Yog. In fear of Obama passing legislation that would take guns away, sales are at an all time high. My guess is this is due to naivety, ignorance, fear, media hype or a combination of the four. There is something bigger than the president called a status quo here. This is why Bush was anti-abortion and and there were never any real abortion laws passed. The status quo with Obama will remain unchanged. The president is not a dictator. Obama may be against guns. Deep down inside his cockles he may even hate them. But the guy is still smart. Very smart. It would be political suicide for him and future democratic leaders to to ban them. He know this. He may even go on record and publicly denounce them- just like Bush denounced abortion. But there will be no change in regards to guns. I'm not on the Obama bandwagon. I didn't vote for him. I wrote in Ron Paul. So don't attempt to tell me that I'm blindly defending the guy. (more...)

I've read several reports of the Mormon churches in California going to certain lengths to ensure the passing of Prop 8. These included handing out picket signs to their parishioners, including specific anti-prop 8 messages in their sermons and organizing protests against gay marriage. It seems like no matter their opinion of the issue (whether for or against prop 8) a church should hold its opinion quietly and not urge its members to protest or advise them on how to vote. In this country a church can lose its tax-exempt status for putting a political sign on its lawn, shouldn't openly preaching one's opinion of a political issue be grounds for loss of this privilege? I'm using Prop 8 as an example of political manipulation by a church. Though the same scenario could be used for any issue in which a church (any denomination) has gone to certain lengths to pass their own ideology through a court of law. As this is a proposition that was passed by vote and amended the Constitution, I do feel that this is a political issue and not a moral one.
