has anyone had a bad experience with mechanics? i recently brought my car in for inspection. it's 6 years old very well taken care of with no problems at all. they have my car on the lift for about 30 minutes.then they come back and say well we noticed this on the safety part of the inspection so it's gonna fail. they give me a quote to fix it and it's a crazy amount of money and i laugh at them and tell them i can get the parts for hundreds less and to lower my car back down and not to scrape off my inspection sticker. they were gonna do it- scrape my sticker off then put it through as a fail to trap me into getting it fixed right there. i mean how many people have they did this too before me that got bullied and forked over the money.what should i do?where could i make a complaint to? i live in ny and i don't want to complain to the company or the chain. this happened at monro muffler.any replies or answers will be appreciated p.s i went the next day got the car looked at and everything was good and passed inspection without a problem and i had them check everything out at a different place thanks for the replies. in ny we have the safety part where they check off visual and we have the emissions where they plug the computer to your car if it's a 1996 or newer. My husband went to a car dealership to buy a car, the lot found him financing through a bank. The contract was printed up, payments were arranged, he is military so an allotment was started for the payments, a 40 day sticker was given, CONTRACT was SIGNED by both parties, and my husband left the lot with the car. A few days after he had the car it started having some problems, so my husband called the lot and they told him to bring the car in and they would have it looked at. So he did, there were some problems with the computer system in the car but the car lot said they would go ahead and pay for the repairs. My husband was told he could pick the car up when it was done, A couple of days after that the car lot called and said that there was a problem with the financing and the bank required $900 down now. My husband told the lot he didn't have cash for a down pmt thats why he sought a lender that would finance 100% The lot said thry would call back in a day, they did and the owner said to my husband..you pay $450 i'll pay $450.Again my husband told him he had no cash for a down pmt. My husband was very upset at this point and felt he had no option other than to give the car back, so he did. My husbands pay has been less than it should be due to an allotment, FOR THAT CAR!! The bank was getting the pmts and we didn't even own the car. My husband contacted the bank and got the $ straightened out. He asked the bank about them requiring a down after the contract had been signed and they told him that once that contract was signed it was a "legal binding contract" that anything that was stated in that contract regarding down pmts, monthly pmts, etc..was legally the contract. So at this point we believe the lot committed some type of fraud? My husband's credit score was affected, money for 2 months was taken from our bank acct. Was this illegal? Our head bean counter sent out the following letter to all employees yesterday. "To all employees, As the CFO of this business that employees 240 people, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barack Hussein Obama Jr will be our next President, and that our taxes and government fees will increase in a BIG way. To compensate for these increases, I figure our customers will have to see an increase in our fees to them of about 8% across the board. But since we cannot increase our fees right now due to the dismal state of our economy, we will have to lay off 20 of our employees instead. This has really been eating at me for a while, as we believe we are family here and I didn't know how to choose who will have to go. So, this is what I did. I strolled through our parking lot and found 20 employees' cars with 'Obama / Biden 2008' bumper stickers on them, and have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off. I can't think of a more fair way to approach this problem. These folks wanted change; so I gave it to them. If you have a better idea, let me know. Sincerely, (the bean counter)" Now, since I had a McCain / Palin 2008 bumper sticker proudly affixed to my car I'm not one of those losing their job right now, so I have no problem with this at all. In fact, many of us feel it is an excellent way to rid the workplace of the slackers who are always coming in late for work, always taking extra-long breaks, always stepping out for a "quick smoke" (since they can't smoke indoors), first in line at any company picnic, expect someone else to finish or fix their sloppy work, etc, etc. Do you think this is a good way to deal with this economic situation which has been getting worse every day since the Democrats took over Congress two years ago? I seriously think that if they were to lower cost because if any of you think that a car cost that much to manufacture than you are misguided. lower the sticker prices and watch sales go up bail yourselves out. in my honest opinion I really could care less if they did go under they are the reason why we use the internal combustion engine cars. the electric car was available years ago in California if you have forgotten and the big 3 were behind its demise because they get kick backs from oil companies (more...)
