Aleksei Kosygin, Lyndon B. Johnson / TIME Cover: June 30, 1967, Art Poster by TIME Magazine
The most eagerly awaited event in the editorial cycle at TIME Magazine is always the selection of the cover. The best covers capture the zeitgeist of the week while surviving the judgment of history. As browsing this collection of TIME cover art prints shows, TIME is as good a record as any of who and what mattered over the past 80-plus years. And so when TIME captures a person, an event or a trend within its iconic red borders, the magazine is adding that extra dose of significance that no other publication can quite match. That is one reason why the original artwork for more than 800 TIME covers now resides in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. Thanks to an amazing roster of artists, photographers and graphic designers, from TIME's earliest charcoal drawings of cover subjects to its later black-and-white photography to the more recent paintings and stunning color photography, TIME covers have always been, sometimes quite literally, works of great art. And, while the times may change, the TIME cover, with its iconic red border, has never lost its power to immediately send the signal that this person or event or idea is important to our lives, that in some way history is being made before our eyes.

Open Question: If the George H.W. Bush administration had been in office on 9/11, how might he have responded differently?
If possible, please take account of the priorities of the key figures in the administrations and domestic political constraints

Open Question: How do you honestly believe George Bush didn't use 9/11 as a platform for political gain?
And don't you think this is just plain wrong?
And in order to counter the most common argument before it comes up: Bush is almost gone, forget about it.
I have just one question for you: when someone murders someone, do you ever think "oh well, it's over and done with, best to move on?"
I'd hope not.
Messy Jess, either I'm crazy or you are. I'll take those odds any day.
Zenith, how typical, so assume I am a Democrat just because I say something bad about the Republicans. My only advice is to think outside the two party political box.
Alesky, that is true, and I'm glad you mentioned the revolutionary war as well. All wars are wrong, I'll agree with that, however the revolutionary war was at least a fight against tyranny, rather than a fight against the innocent. But in my opinion, a peaceful revolution is always necessary. That is the "war" I'll be backing.

Open Question: Anyone think elections should be run this way?
Two things that i think would make election betters
#1- Anyone trying to vote should have to answer a couple simple political questions. A couple generic questions and a couple about the candidates.
#2- The electoral votes should be split by percentage. While i did vote bush, it was not fair that he lost by popular and won electoral votes. The states with higher electoral votes determine the winner basically and it's not fair. One candidate can win a large state by a small number and get twenty some electoral votes and a state that only has a couple electoral votes can be a landslide by the other candidate and only receive three electoral votes.
How is it discriminating? You can't get a job if you can't answer employers questions. You can't graduate high school if you don't have any knowledge.
But at least it would be people who knew what they were voting for. Not uniformed voters.

Open Question: Will the current price of gas (national average is $1.98!) stay the same or is a mirage?
Do you think we will have stability again in the gas industry, or do you think this is just a minor setback and that prices will shoot up again?
(Also, please no political message, like its all Bush's fault, like you see on AOL news.) Thanks!

Open Question: Do people really think that Obama's going to take their guns away?
In fear of Obama passing legislation that would take guns away, sales are at an all time high. My guess is this is due to naivety, ignorance, fear, media hype or a combination of the four. There is something bigger than the president called a status quo here. This is why Bush was anti-abortion and and there were never any real abortion laws passed. The status quo with Obama will remain unchanged. The president is not a dictator. Obama may be against guns. Deep down inside his cockles he may even hate them. But the guy is still smart. Very smart. It would be political suicide for him and future democratic leaders to to ban them. He know this. He may even go on record and publicly denounce them- just like Bush denounced abortion. But there will be no change in regards to guns.
I'm not on the Obama bandwagon. I didn't vote for him. I wrote in Ron Paul. So don't attempt to tell me that I'm blindly defending the guy.
